Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hardcourt
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his first title for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the competition final.
Medvedev, a former world number one, has had a difficult season, winning just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.
His unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his service game in specific - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with former coach Cervara.
Now working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought three-set triumph over Frenchman Moutet.
This represents the player's maiden title after the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface from that period of that year.
Victory also signifies he has achieved twenty-one victories at 21 distinct competitions.
"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to win a championship is really nice," stated ranked player Medvedev.
"This championship is in tribute of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I got when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."
The athlete, the former major winner, had failed in his last six championship matches, including in that event in the past months.
The player's retrieving approach and recurring reactions on the tennis court had led some to question if his capacity to compete at the highest level was over.
Yet the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and compete aggressively, supported by an improved serving game.
Medvedev came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, winning 4 of the last five points to take the lead.
The competitors exchanged service breaks in the second set before the challenger, striving for his initial tour victory, gained dominance to push for a third set.
Moutet rescued 4 early-game break points in a tight final set before the Russian secured a break to that score to secure the win.
Suitably, he clinched the title with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
